Special Events
Loyola University Jazz Ensemble Festival
The annual festival features several middle, high school, and junior
college jazz bands and combos that perform for a panel of judges, who
then offer critiques of the groups. The festival also offers masterclasses
with Loyola jazz faculty and a special guest artist. The highlights of
the festival are performances by the Loyola Faculty Jazz Septet and the
Loyola Jazz Band with a special guest artist.
Loyola University Invitational Band Festival
The annual festival features four high school concert bands that
perform for a guest composer/arranger/ conductor, who then offer critiques
of the groups. The highlight of the festival is the Saturday afternoon
performance of the Loyola University Concert Band, which features the
music and/or arrangements of the special guest composer.
Loyola University Invitational Choral Festival
Loyola University choirs combine with outstanding singers from area
high schools in a joint performance of a choral masterpiece.
Montage Performance Series
The Montage Performance Series consists of four individual series
of musical events performed at Roussel Performance Hall in the College
of Music. The Visiting Guest Artist Series features world-class solo artists
and ensembles in both jazz and classical idioms. The Master Class Series
features performing artists who appear with the Louisiana Philharmonic
Orchestra, New Orleans Opera, New Orleans Ballet, and at local jazz establishments
throughout the city. Workshops and classes are presented for College of
Music students. The Faculty/Alumni Recital Series and University Performance
Series feature performances by College of Music faculty and student ensembles.
Admission to all Montage events are free for College of Music students.

Loyola University Jazz Band Summer Camp
The week-long jazz band camp is held in June and is open to middle and
high school students. The students study and apply performance techniques,
ensemble playing, and improvisation with Loyola jazz faculty members.
The week culminates with a student performance.
Loyola University Ballet Summer Session
The month-long ballet session is open to beginner through advanced-level
students. The students study and apply fundamental techniques, exercises,
and steps with Loyola ballet faculty members.
GRAMMY in the Schools
The College of Music hosted the 2002 GRAMMY
in the Schools program, an annual music industry career fair for high
school students sponsored by the GRAMMY Foundation.
Metropolitan Opera Regional Auditions
The College of Music hosts the Gulf Coast Regional Auditions for the Metropolitan
Opera company. Opera singers from the Gulf Coast area compete to advance
to national level auditions, which could lead to a contract with the Metropolitan
Opera in New York City.
New Orleans International Piano Competition and Keyboard Festival
The College of Music hosts the New Orleans
International Piano Competition and Keyboard Festival, which is produced
by the Musical Arts Society of New Orleans. Pianists from around the world
travel to New Orleans to compete at the annual festival.
