Loyola Preparatory Music Program has always maintained a high profile in the community. The ballet program is a frequent sponsor of auditions held by professional ballet companies and schools from outside the geographical area. It is also a rehearsal site for Komenka Ethnic Dance Ensemble, a local ethnic music and dance ensemble, which performs at Loyola. Komenka also participates in the Loyola Ballet performances and tours internationally.
Normally, four piano festivals and competitions are held at Loyola each year hosted by the College of Music and Fine Arts and the Preparatory Music Program. This brings many local piano teachers and students, along with their parents, to the College of Music. Most of the activities are organized and run by the New Orleans Music Teachers Association, the local affiliate of Music Teachers National Association and Louisiana Music Teachers Association. Since the preparatory program piano teachers are active participants, officers and frequently chairpersons of these activities, and because Loyola has the best facility, it is appropriate and most successful to host them at Loyola. The Preparatory Program is always involved in the logistics of planning and carrying out these activities.
In addition, many of the teachers are frequently invited to judge contests both here and at other local and outlying areas. This provides additional outreach from Loyola to the larger musical community, as well as being informative for the teachers.
Tuition for each school year is based on 32 weeks of instruction. Annual tuition must be paid by trimester, except ballet, which is by semester, and must be paid in advance of lessons and classes. Admission to class is contingent upon payment of fees. Checks are made payable to Loyola Preparatory Program and are mailed to:
