New Orleans—A Rich Cultural Experience

The Jesuits were among the first explorers in Louisiana and because of this connection, Loyola is an integral part of the rich history of one of the most culturally diverse cities and states in the country. With its unique cuisine, numerous museums and historical sites, and flourishing arts community, New Orleans provides an ideal setting for achieving a cultural experience few cities can match.

New Orleans is truly a city that brings music to life, combining the old with the new. The first opera house in the country was in New Orleans and opera productions have been staged in the Crescent City for more than 200 years. The Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra provides a vast array of orchestral music, and numerous local concert venues feature all genres of chamber, solo, and choral music throughout the year. The historic French Quarter is home to numerous intimate clubs and venues where jazz, blues, rock, rhythm and blues, zydeco, and Cajun music can all be heard and played.

New Orleans is a devoted theatre community with numerous opportunities for students to experience their craft. Internships are offered through local New Orleans theatres and by special arrangement with out-of-state theatres.

New Orleans is known for its rich culture and art. Students benefit from practical experience in a select number of internships available at museums and galleries throughout the New Orleans area. In addition, opportunities exist for working with art curators.
