Endowed Scholarships
The following is a list of endowed music scholarships offered to students of the College of Music and Fine Arts.
Guy F. Bernard Memorial Scholarship
The Guy F. Bernard Memorial Scholarship was established in 1982
in memory of Mr. Bernard, a 1935 graduate of the College of Music who
served as a member of the music faculty for many years. The purpose of
this scholarship is to promote excellence in the field of music by offereing
incentives to talented students currently studying piano.
M.J. Euphemie Blanc and Louis Alfred Blanc Joint Memorial Scholarship
The M.J. Euphemie Blanc and Louis Alfred Blanc Joint Memorial Scholarship
was established in 2000 after receiving a bequest from the estate of Mary
Jane Euphemie Blanc. The purpose of the scholarship is to promote excellence
in the field of music by offering incentives to talented students. Female
vocalists, violinists, pianists or organists will be given first preference.
Cahill-Conway Families Scholarship
The Cahill-Conway Families Scholarship in memory of Mary Margaret
Conway and Noel Cecelia Cahill Malloy was established in 1990. Five bequests
were made to Loyola University for the purposes of scholarships. In awarding
these scholarships, priority is to be given "first, to Candidates,
Student Brothers and Brothers of the Sacred Heart attending Loyola University
as beneficiaries thereof."
Zona B. Davis Memorial Scholarship
The Zona B. Davis Memorial Scholarship was established in 2000
in memory of Ms. Davis, a dedicated Loyola University employee from 1960
– 1976. She served as executive secretary in the College of Physics
for sixteen years and was mentioned in one physics publication as the
“best secretary on campus.” The scholarship will be given
every four years to an outstanding female student in the College of Music and Fine Arts.
D. Donnaud Scholarship
The D. Donnaud Scholarship was established in 1993. Ms. Donnaud
was a native New Orleanian who was a graduate of the Academy of the Sacred
Heart and served as a member of its board. She was also a lifetime member
of the Most Holy Name of Jesus Parish, and always felt a special kinship
with Loyola. The purpose of this scholarship is to promote excellence
in the field of music by offereing incentives to talented students.
Evelyn-Mae Durmeyer Fillion Scholarship
In 2001, the family of Evelyn-Mae Fillion established a scholarship in
her memory in the College of Music and Fine Arts. The Evelyn-Mae Durmeyer Fillion
Scholarship was created through gifts from Mrs. Fillion’s children,
Lloyd and Janet Mae. A 1938 graduate of the College of Music , Mrs. Fillion
was an organist at Temple Sinai and other places of worship in uptown
New Orleans. The scholarship will be given to a degree candidate in the
College of Music and Fine Arts, majoring in piano or cello. Preference will be given
to students in music education or music therapy.
Jack and Sarah LaNasa Memorial Scholarship in Music
Funded by the LaNasa-Greco Foundation, the Jack and Sarah LaNasa Memorial
Scholarship was established in 2001. The purpose of the scholarship
is to promote excellence in the field of music by offering incentives
to talented students.
Marjorie Hebert Mailhes Memorial Scholarship
The Marjorie Hebert Mailhes Memorial Scholarship was funded in
1999. The purpose of this scholarship is to promote excellence in undergraduate
studies by offereing incentives to talented music students.
Antoinette Famularo Mayeur and Harold M. Mayeur Scholarships
After hearing a performance by Loyola's College of Music , Harold M. Mayeur
was moved to establish music scholarships at Loyola in memory of his mother
Antoinette Famularo Mayeur, and himself. Mr. Mayeur died in 1994, and
the funding for the Antoinette Famularo Mayeur and Harold M. Mayeur
Scholarships. The purpose of this scholarship is to promote excellence
in the field of music by offereing incentives to talented students.
Rev. C.J. McNaspy, S.J. Endowed Scholarship for Excellence in
Music
Established in 1996 as a result of Thresholds: the Campaign for Loyola
University New Orleans, the Rev. C.J. McNaspy, S.J. Endowed Scholarship
for Excellence in Music will be used to fund scholarships for music
students. The fund was established by a number of administrators, faculty,
and staff within the College of Music in memory of the late Fr. McNaspy,
who taught at Loyola for many years. Fr. McNaspy, a Jesuit of international
repute, served as dean of the College of Music in the 1950s before leaving
Loyola to work for American Magazine. He returned to Loyola as
a University Professor teaching primarily religious studies, but left
again to teach at the Jesuit mission in Paraguay. His later years were
spent as adjunct faculty in City College and the College of Music . The
purpose of this scholarship is to promote excellence in the field of music
by offereing incentives to talented students.
J. Freyhan Odenheimer Endowed Music Scholarship
The J. Freyhan Odenheimer Endowed Music Scholarship was established
in 1996 by Mrs. Rita Odenheimer Huntsinger to honor the memory of her
first husband. Mrs. Huntsinger, a member of both the College of Music
Visiting Committee and the university Board of Trustees, has been an active
volunteer with the music school for many years. The purpose of this scholarship
is to promote excellence in the field of music by offereing incentives
to talented students.
Overture to the Cultural Season Scholarship
In 1982, the Overture to the Cultural Season established an endowed scholarship
at Loyola University. The purpose of this scholarship is to promote excellence
in the field of visual arts and music by offereing incentives to talented
students.
Anthony “Val” Valentino Memorial Scholarship in Music
The Anthony “Val” Valentino Memorial Scholarship
was established in 2002 by Mrs. Mary Ann Valentino to honor the memory
of her husband, a 1940 graduate of the College of Music . Mrs. Valentino,
a member of the Music Visiting Committee, has been an active volunteer
with the music school for many years. The scholarship will be awarded
to a degree candidate in the College of Music and Fine Arts in his/her junior or senior
year. The recipient must be an outstanding student in composition.
Mary Z. Wirth Music Education Scholarship
The Mary Z. Wirth Music Education Scholarship was established in
1998 through the estate of Harold E. Wirth, in memory of his late wife
Mary, a 1940 graduate of the College of Music . The purpose of this scholarship
is to promote excellence in the field of music education by offereing
incentives to talented students.
