Endowed Chairs and Professorships

The following is a list of endowed chairs and professorships within the College of Music and Fine Arts.

Conrad N. Hilton Endowed Chair in Music Industry Studies
In 1995 the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation awarded a $1,000,000 grant to Loyola University New Orleans to establish one fully funded endowed chair and one partially funded chair for the newly created Music Industry Studies program. The purpose of this chair is to promote excellence in teaching and scholarship in the field of music industry studies. The Conrad N. Hilton Endowed Chair in Music Industry Studies in the College of Music and Fine Arts is currently open and in the College of Business Administration by Dr. Jerry Goolsby.

John R. Bourgeois Endowed Visiting Professorship
Col. John R. Bourgeois (retired), former director of the Marine Corps Band, attended Loyola in the 1950s and was awarded a degree in 1990. Upon his retirement in 1996, the John R. Bourgeois Endowment was established at Loyola for the purposes of scholarships as well as "to honor John Bourgeois as he serves Loyola as visiting music professor..." The interest from this fund will be allocated for scholarships, and on an annual basis used to cover expenses associated with Col. Bourgeois' appointment as a visiting professor.

Rita O. Huntsinger Distinguished Professorship in Music
The Rita O. Huntsinger Distinguished Professorship in Music was established in 1998 through a gift from Merl Huntsinger in honor of his wife, Rita Odenheimer Huntsinger. Mrs. Huntsinger, a member of both the College of Music and Fine Arts Visiting Committee and the university Board of Trustees, has been an active volunteer with the College of Music and Fine Arts for many years. The purpose of this professorship is to promote excellence in teaching and scholarship in the field of music. The Rita O. Huntsinger Distinguished Professorship in Music is currently held by Mr. Philip Frohnmayer.

David P. Swanzy Professorship
In 1998, Adelaide Wisdom Benjamin increased her committment to Thresholds: the Campaign for Loyola University New Orleans to include funds to create a professorship in honor of the former Dean of the College of Music and Fine Arts, David P. Swanzy. Mrs. Benjamin, a member of the university's Board of Trustees, served as co-chair of the capital campaign. The purpose of this professorship is to promote excellence in teaching and scholarship in the field of music. The David P. Swanzy Professorship is currently held by Dr. Edward Kvet.

College of Music and Fine Arts Endowment
The College of Music and Fine Arts Endowment was established in 1999 by the Dean of the College of Music and Fine Arts for general support of the College of Music and Fine Arts activities. The fund was established through gifts from alumni, faculty, staff, and friends of the College of Music and Fine Arts. The purpose of this endowment is to provide funds to enhance activities within the College of Music and Fine Arts including, but not restricted to, student travel to auditions, conferences, and festivals; student ensemble travel; guest artist masterclasses, performances, and residencies.

Music Library Endowment
The Music Library Endowment was established in 1996 as a result of Thresholds: the Campaign for Loyola University New Orleans. Interest from this endowment will be used for general support of the library in the College of Music and Fine Arts. The fund was established through campaign gifts from faculty and staff within the College of Music and Fine Arts. The precise use of this account is yet to be determined.
