Mona Bond

Instructor of Voice

B.A., Louisiana College; M.C.M., New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary

Mona Bond, mezzo-soprano, has appeared extensively throughout the south in a varied repertory of recital, oratorio, and orchestral works, which have included performances with the New Orleans Symphony and the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra in Handel's Messiah, Prokofiev's Alexander Nevsky, and de Falla's El Amor Brujo. She has appeared with the New Orleans Opera, NORD Opera, and Gulf Coast Opera, and has premiered two operas, Parnell and Mary and Queen of Scotland, by Dr. Laurence Oden. She also performed the United States premier of Canadian composer, R. Murray Shafer's solo-voice opera, Beauty and the Beast. A recent recital for the Montage Series at Loyola included this work in addition to Stravinsky's The Faun and the Shepherdess, and Britten's Abraham and Isaac. The fall of 2001 will include a repeat performance of de Falla's El Amor Brujo, with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra. Bond has studied voice with Dr. Pierre Valmont Blanchard, Dr. Claude Rhea, Elisabeth Wood, and currently coaches with Florence and Michael Presti of New Orleans. Before joining the Loyola faculty, Bond taught voice at Louisiana College and the New Orleans Theological Seminary. She has been with the College of Music faculty since 1988.
